Who We Are
The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority, or RTA as it is locally known, began operations in January 1986 and has since provided public transportation services to the citizens of the Coastal Bend, including Nueces County and San Patricio County, which includes cities of Agua Dulce, Bishop, Corpus Christi, Driscoll, Gregory, Port Aransas, and Robstown.
The RTA Service area covers 830 square miles and serves over five (5) million passengers per year. In addition to fixed route bus services, RTA provides commuter service to employees of the Corpus Christi Army Depot and other federal agencies, operates the Corpus Christi Harbor Ferry, provides transportation services to rural communities, assists citizens in creating vanpools and rideshare programs, and provides demand-response curb-to-curb service for qualified individuals with a disability.
Mission Statement
The Regional Transportation Authority was created by the people to provide quality transportation in a responsible manner consistent with its financial resources and the diverse needs of the people. Secondarily, the Authority will also act responsibly to enhance the regional economy.
Purposes and Goals of the RTA
- To provide safe, dependable and comfortable public transportation services
- To seek out and be responsive to public needs
- To maximize operating revenue while maintaining our social responsibility and to seek efficiency in all areas
- To use revenue sources efficiently and maintain fiscally effective operations
- To provide a work environment that instills a spirit of teamwork and achievement
- To broaden the ridership base to increase ridership, both in number and types of riders
- To educate the public about the benefits of the system
- To work with the public and private sector in support of economic development
RTA Facts
An eleven member Board of Directors governs the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), which was created in 1985 by the vote of the public to provide quality accessible and affordable transportation to the residents of Nueces and San Patricio Counties. The RTA Service Area covers 838 square miles. The RTA also known as the ‘B’ provides fixed route service, tourist, commuter, charter, public event, and van/car pool services. Additionally, the RTA offers Paratransit Bus Service called B-Line, which provides shared-ride public transportation for people whose disabilities prevent them from using fixed route bus services.
