The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority, or RTA as it is locally known, began operations in January 1986 and has since provided public transportation services to the citizens of the Coastal Bend, including Nueces County and San Patricio County, which includes cities of Agua Dulce, Bishop, Corpus Christi, Driscoll, Gregory, Port Aransas, and Robstown.

The RTA Service area covers 830 square miles and serves over five (5) million passengers per year. In addition to fixed route bus services, RTA provides commuter service to employees of the Corpus Christi Army Depot and other federal agencies, operates the Corpus Christi Harbor Ferry, provides transportation services to rural communities, assists citizens in creating vanpools and rideshare programs, and provides demand-response origin-to-destination service for qualified individuals with a disability.
